Step 1 • Letter of Inquiry

In order to initiate a proposal to the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, a one-page letter of inquiry must be received by 5:00 pm CST on April 15th or October 15th of each calendar year. Should the deadline fall on a weekend or national holiday, the letter is due the following business day. The letter should include the following criteria:

• Contact Name
• Contact Phone Number
• Contact Email
• Background of the organization and the date founded
• Project(s) detail
• Amount requested
• Accreditation status
• Total project cost
• Federal Tax ID Number
• An attached list of the organization’s Board of Directors
• An attached list of journalism courses if a College or University

Once your letter has been reviewed by the Foundation, we will contact you via email by May 1st or November 1st. The contact information listed on your letter of inquiry is where correspondence is sent. If you do not receive email notification by that date, contact us immediately. Following up on a letter of inquiry is your organization’s responsibility. If approved, you will be asked to move on to the Application process in Step 2 of this website.

Please forward the Letter of Inquiry by mail or email to the address below.
